The nature of the TERRORIST can makes backstory unusually uncomplicated. If the cause if political, then sometimes just growing up in places where oppression by the “other side” exists goes a long way toward establishing the backstory. Sometimes, hatred is actively taught. Long ago, I read about a sign in the midst of a particularly strife-ridden neighborhood in Ireland that read, “If you were raised as they were raised, and taught as they were taught, you’d believe what they believe.” A TERRORIST might well be the product of a family or school atmosphere that promoted the kind of hatred for whomever is on the other side. Often, we don’t question what is presented as truth to us as children.
